What problems do you solve?

What problems do you solve for your customers? The answer to that question defines your business.

Let me share my example; my business is Marketing, a small agency serving West and Central Scotland. After a while, I noticed that I was for many clients their marketing department. A resource on tap to use as and when they needed support. This arrangement makes sense for both parties, as their size and needs probably don't justify a separate person for this role; it works for me as I can work between similar-sized clients and one-off assignments.

For many clients, I have been able to help them at significant stages of their development or when they've had particular issues or opportunities.

Back to your business and the problems you solve for your clients, and if you're unsure, ask. It's essential to know as that becomes a pivotal way to position your business and market it to new customers, as they are likely looking for the same thing.

Pay special attention to the phrases that customers use to describe what you do and the problems that you solve for them. The reason is that these may well be the kind words that people are typing into search engines. Use these phrases online and in marketing to help them discover you.

Now back to solving problems!
